How to use this black screen
Fill the display with solid black. Use it to keep a nearby screen visually quiet, inspect dark scenes, or find edge glow in a dim room. The PNG downloads provide the same numeric black as a static background.
Dark-room viewing
Use the black field when a bright browser window would distract from a movie, presentation, photo setup, or other low-light task. It changes the displayed pixels but does not turn off the monitor.
Black level and backlight bleed
In a dim room, inspect the field for corner glow, cloudy patches, edge bleed, or pixels that remain visibly colored. Use the LCD Screen Tester for a guided multi-pattern check.
OLED and LCD behavior
OLED creates black by reducing or switching off individual pixel emission. LCD black depends on the panel blocking a still-active backlight, so some glow or lifted black can remain.
Technical note
This page renders #000000, or rgb(0, 0, 0). OLED pixels can switch off individually for black, while LCD panels still rely on a backlight and light blocking. Black content may reduce power on some OLED devices, but the result depends on the display, brightness, settings, and surrounding interface.
